Frequently asked questions

Whether you're new to the world of horses or looking to deepen your existing bond, it's natural to have questions. We're here to provide clarity and set the stage for a rewarding experience with Grace Between The Rails, your mobile horse trainer and riding coach in  the Northwest areas of Texas. Dive into some of the most important topics.

What should I wear or bring to my first lesson?

For your safety and comfort, please avoid loose jewelry or clothing. Open-toed shoes are not permitted. If you'll be riding, jeans or breeches are essential, along with boots that have a low heel; tennis shoes are not recommended for riding. You are welcome to bring treats for the horses—they love apples, carrots, and horse cookies. Some also enjoy bananas, watermelon (rind must be bite-sized to prevent choking), cantaloupe, and sugar cubes. Regarding purchases, a helmet is required for riding. For horse management and horsemanship lessons, grooming materials, a groom bag or box/bucket, and gloves are recommended. We can provide a detailed list at your first lesson.

What common misunderstandings about horse training do you address?

Many people harbor fears about horses, often due to their size or past negative experiences. A central part of our philosophy at Grace Between The Rails is building trust, for both human and horse, and establishing a strong, respectful bond. We aim to clear up misconceptions that stem from incorrect education or early trauma. I teach people to understand the 'why' behind their fear, transforming apprehension into confident connection through proper understanding and communication.

What unique things do you offer or do differently when teaching horsemanship or helping with horse challenges?

Our unique approach at Grace Between The Rails focuses on bridging the communication gap between humans and horses. With over 40 years of experience, including being Equine Mastery Education System certified, I specialize in explaining why a horse might be behaving or acting a certain way by meticulously observing their body language and expressions. This insight empowers you to better understand and respond to your equine partner, fostering a deeper, more harmonious relationship.

What is the most important message Grace Between The Rails wants you to take away?

The most crucial message we want you to carry from Grace Between The Rails is that horses and humans possess an incredible capacity to heal each other. This profound connection is forged through effective communication, ongoing education, and the pursuit of harmony. We believe that by understanding and respecting one another, both horse and rider can achieve a state of balance and mutual well-being, enriching lives on both ends of the lead rope.

Harmony between human and horse

We're passionate about helping you achieve a profound connection with horses, transforming challenges into triumphs.
